Mobile segment of users is becoming more and more prominent in eCommerce. The increase of Russia`s mobile audience for 2017 is equal to 15%. At the same time 63% of all mobile sales are made via applications (according to the retailers, having both mobile website and application). This audience is not only the most active and progressive one, it is also shaping the consumer market for the coming years. That is why the natural concept of redesign is orientation to resolutions of mobile devices for providing convenient functionality and further scaling to the desktop version of the website.

Implementation

Analysis of the old application metrics had shown a low conversion, absolutely unacceptable to the modern business. Task for increasing the indicators by 70% had become actual for us.

We had to rewrite a code completely in order to use all possibilities of modern native programming languages.

Also, it was logical to create a new mobile version of the website for starting the work with the mobile segment. The overall stylistic design of the mobile version contributes to its usability.

Engineering and Design

Making design of the main pages, creating prototype in Marvel, getting feedback from the customer and finalizing the requirements.

What is under the «hood»?

The iOS app uses RealmSwift for data storage and processing. For working with the network is used Alamofire library with ObjectMapper data serialization.

The Android app is written in Java; Kotlin is for working with the data. Retrofit and rxJava libraries are used for data exchange and updating. The interface is based on the MVP pattern.

Architecture of the application corresponds to the Abstract Factory pattern.

This architecture solution makes the application more flexible and independent of the further improvements.

Google Analytics, AppMetrica and Firebase help us to understand better the user behaviour when working with the app, to segment the audience and to send only targeted notifications to the customers.

Peculiarities of the project and API

Besides developing the apps, we were to create API. As a result, a complex logic on the server was realized. The customer receives fully processed data.

API of Stolplit is:

1. API versioning. 3 versions are being used now - v5, v6, v7.

2. 30+ methods.

3. Full functionality of working with catalogue - sorting, smart filter, full-text search.

4. Complete registration of the order with filling in all required data, online payment, bonus system, coupons and discounts.

5. Actual documentation, being generated automatically via Doxygen.

API is enough time-consuming and important stage in applications development. It is a cornerstone for possibilities of functionality and its further scaling. In Stolplit case, API was being created by Intaro taking into account the architecture of stolplit.ru website. The process of API creation was going hand in hand with the apps development for Android and iOS, that allowed applications developers to focus on the design and compliance with the present-day requirements of app stores.
